The cost of long-term care continues to rise. The 2012 MetLife Market Survey of Nursing Home and Home Care Costs reveals that the average cost of a private room in a Nursing Home in Atlanta rose to $248, while a semi-private room is $222 up from $239 and $214 respectively in 2011. The average cost of a home health aide has remained unchanged at $21.00/hour. Unfortunately, the average base price of assisted living in Georgia rose from $3,477 in 2011 to $3,550 in 2012.
For many families, the cost of long-term care is daunting. Thankfully there may be some financial help for those who have served our country during time of war and for those who seek assistance early on.
If you are a Veteran, or have clients or family members who are Veterans or the surviving spouses of Veterans who need long-term care, you should know about Veteran’s Benefits that might be available to help defray the cost of that care. The VA will pay a monthly pension to a veteran or surviving spouse who qualifies for this benefit. In addition, a qualified veteran may be able to receive all of the veteran’s medications and drugs free of charge from the VA. This benefit, called Aid & Attendance, is available to veterans or their surviving spouses who meet specific qualifications outlined on the left panel of our brochure. (See link below.)
